The golden era of the Chinese Super League attracted many soccer superstars to join, and the former dominant Guangzhou Evergrande is even more star-studded. Recently, former Guangzhou Evergrande striker Jackson Martinez, the former Chinese Super League title winner, said in a media interview that he is ready to return to the green field and restart his soccer career. If Martinez does make a comeback, it will be his return to the field after three years of retirement.

Even though Martinez has called it quits in early 2021 due to an ankle injury, rumors of his comeback have been common. In an interview with Colombian outlet LARED, Martinez finally revealed the latest update on his comeback.

Martinez revealed, "I was close to joining Medellín Independiente this year, but in the end it didn't work out. At that time I was not in good physical condition. Today, I feel I have recovered well and have no physical problems. It is true that several clubs have thrown me an olive branch and invited me to continue playing. I will study these contracts carefully. Of course, I must first ensure the stability of my family life. If a comeback means being away from my family, then I will carefully consider whether to accept."

In fact, Martinez has had at least two chances to return in the past two years and failed to do so for various reasons. This time, he has multiple offers in his hands, which makes the rumors of a comeback seem more credible. After more than two years of recuperation, the ankle injury that has plagued him for so long is no longer a problem.

Martinez was a valuable asset to Guangzhou Evergrande. In early 2016, he joined Evergrande with a transfer fee of 42 million euros, which was once the highest transfer fee for a player in the Chinese Super League. However, in that crazy transfer window, his record was quickly broken by Teixeira's transfer fee of 50 million euros. Although Martinez's performance at Evergrande did not meet expectations, he still became synonymous with the Chinese Super League "water goods superstar", but nevertheless, he helped the team win the Chinese Super League title during his time at Evergrande.
