Recently, Tianjin media personality Gu Ying threw out an in-depth article on social media detailing the metamorphosis of rising soccer star Xie Weijun in recent years and providing a forward-looking analysis of his future with the national team.
Xie Weijun, the pride of the Jinmen Tigers, has been included for the first time in the latest edition of the national soccer team's squad list. Gu Ying gives a review of Xie Weijun's development:
Xie Weijun possesses outstanding height, swiftness, tenacity and unlimited potential - a common evaluation given by head coach Yu Genwei and his coaching team since the reorganization of Jinmen Tigers in 2021. Based on this, the coaching team has set three enhancement goals for him: strengthening his upper body strength, improving his header scoring skills, and enhancing his back ball control.
Once the direction is clear, it needs to be put into practice. In the past two and a half years, assistant coach Sun Jianjun has worked side by side with Xie Weijun, practicing almost every one or two days, and today is no different. At the same time, there are seven other coaches synchronized to help, from multiple angles, multiple levels on Xie's header skills to polish. Coach Yu Genwei even personally dissected Xie Weijun's technical movements one-on-one and taught the experience of handling the ball, especially in the initial stage of the Jinmen Tigers.
In the current league environment, teams generally rely on foreign aid for their striker positions, limiting the space for domestic strikers to develop, and there are very few strikers with character and potential. 1.90 meters Xie Weijun is not only nearly 10 years taller than the national team's other main striker Tan Long, but his height advantage is even more obvious. In the long run, Xie Weijun's style is very different from that of Beijing Guoan's forward Zhang Yuning, who is recovering from an injury, and the national team doesn't see him as an incompatible presence. As long as he continues to put in the effort, the 26-year-old Xie Weijun will continue to challenge himself and break through the limits.
