On Monday (28), Manchester United FC announced the departure of leader Tannhäuser with determination after a 1-2 league defeat. With this weighty announcement, assistant coach Yunisdale was appointed to take over the role of interim leader.

In a posting on the official United website, Tan Hagar said, "Tan Hagar has left his position as manager of the Manchester United men's team for personal reasons. Since April 2022, he has led the team to win two top domestic honors including the 2023 EFL Cup and 2024 FA Cup. We would like to thank Tanhag for his dedication in the past partnership and wish him all the best for the future. Yunisdale will take over as Head Coach on an interim basis and with the assistance of the existing coaching team, we will be actively looking for a new team leader."

The British media have revealed that Tannhäuser was given notice of his dismissal on Monday morning local time. Yunisdale will take over as coach, while the rest of the management staff will remain in place to prepare for the match against Lister City in the early hours of Thursday morning and the league match against the Roadrunners in the early hours of next Sunday.

It is worth noting that United had planned to extend Tanhag's contract by one year this summer, however, they have suddenly pushed the coach to the brink of losing his job and are required to pay a whopping £16 million (about HK$160 million) in compensation. United's hierarchy is rumored to have agreed on sacking Tannhäuser due to a lack of motivation and progress in the team, which has not had a good start to its league and European campaigns, and the case for retaining Tannhäuser is looking weaker and weaker.

Looking back at Tannhäuser's managerial career at Manchester United, he had a total of 72 wins, 20 draws and 36 defeats, with a winning percentage of 56.2%. Despite investing a whopping £600 million (about HK$6 billion) in reinforcements over two years, he has only led the team to win two local titles. In addition, he lost his Europa League berth this season, a return that is obviously hardly satisfactory.
