Since Ratcliffe took over at Manchester United, his management style has clearly favored a leaner approach. This has included massive layoffs and the removal of Ambassador Ferguson's post, which has sparked widespread controversy. More recently, United have made a bizarre attempt to save money by leasing a private jet, and have even planned to transfer funds to city rivals Manchester City. They offered to share the ride, hoping to bring players such as Minnay and Alejandro Canazo to the Ballon d'Or ceremony in Paris, but were firmly rejected.
The Ballon d'Or awards ceremony opened in Paris on Monday (28th). Two Manchester United players, Minnay and Ganassou, have been shortlisted for the KOPA Award (U21 Ballon d'Or). However, according to the Daily Mail, Manchester United thought it was not cost-effective to hire private jets to transport the players, so they sought the convenience of "hitchhiking" from Manchester City, but hit a brick wall and came back.
Why did Manchester City ultimately refuse? As it turns out, City already had 8 players including Lodi Kasjandi and Ainin Charant who needed to attend the awards ceremony, and the flights were already full. Manchester United's wishful thinking failed to materialize and even inadvertently exposed their own pettiness.
