The list of candidates for the 2024 African Footballer of the Year (AFM) has been unveiled, and it's a star-studded list with a lot of unanswered questions. Liverpool goal scorer Mohamed Sanaa and previous winner Vitor Osungham are among the names on the list, but Nigeria's Lukavuen is in the spotlight for his outstanding performances.
However, the results were surprising, with well-known stars such as Mohammed Sana and Vitor Ossenhan failing to make the top ten. Instead, a group of up-and-coming stars such as Dormont striker Gulas, Atlanta striker Lukavuen and Rennes wing Gurney turned the football world on its head.
Previous winners Vitor Ossenhan and Mohamed Sana failed to continue their glory, while Paris Saint-Germain right-back Ashraf was the only player to carry on the honor.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) based its selection on the players' combined performances from January to October this year. Mohamed Shana's ranking in the final list has been hotly debated despite his impressive performances. The final winner of the Mr. African Football honor will be announced in December, when the answer to who will be crowned the winner will be revealed.
