Liverpool's right-back Alexandre Arnault's contract is coming to an end this coming summer. Despite rumors that Real Madrid is looking to sign him, the latest reports from the British media indicate that Arnott has agreed to a contract extension with the club. In addition to a hefty £350,000 (HK$3.5 million) per week salary, Liverpool have also promised to let Walker Wlodzik leave at the end of the coming season and hand over the captain's armband to Arnott as an incentive for him to continue playing for the Red Devils.
In response to Real Madrid's strong poaching, Liverpool pulled out all the stops to keep both Arnott's man and his heart. Not only did they offer a generous salary package, allowing Arnott to become one of the team's highest-paid players alongside Mohamed Shana, but they also made it clear that he would take over as captain, a move that undoubtedly increased his determination to stay with the team.
Currently, Alexandre Arnault is Liverpool's vice-captain. With Wahkil Yundjak's term as captain coming to an end, Arnott will be the logical choice to take over the captaincy once the Dutch international leaves the club. Liverpool's previous captains have enjoyed high status in soccer history, with famous players such as Rusch and Sherratt wearing the team's captain's armband. For Arnott, being able to become the Reds' captain is undoubtedly a major temptation. Real Madrid, on the other hand, have always seemed to do a much better job of dealing with this type of "leafy player" in the past.
