Wednesday (18th) dawned as Manchester United faced off with League One side Barnsley in the third round of the Premier League. United were determined to leave no stone unturned and led by two goals from Rashford, they progressed with a stunning 7-0 win at home. Under the tactical guidance of Tannhäuser, United earned the biggest win in the club's history, a feat that surpassed all previous records.
After the match, Tannhäuser spoke highly of his team's performance and announced that "Fook" Rashford had returned to full strength. United did not go all out in this match, but the regular starters such as Rashford, Alejandro Canazo and Casimiro were still outstanding. Rashford scored in just 16 minutes from a long pass, while Anthony Mafioso scored a penalty in the 35th minute. Before half-time, "Foo" assisted again on a Canazo goal to take a 3-0 lead at halftime.
In the second half of the match, United scored two goals, one each by Rashford and Ganassou, and the other by veteran Kristian Alexson. United's frenzied offense eventually led to a 7-0 victory. This was not only the biggest win for Tannhäuser since his appointment, but also surpassed the record of 7-2 victory over Newcastle in 1976.
After ending his goal drought in the previous match against Southampton, Rashford had a great game with two shots and a pass. Tannhäuser said after the game, "In my first season in charge, Lashford showed calmness, composure and confidence. Last year, the team faced many challenges, but we finally achieved our goal of winning the championship. When I see my family, I feel an overwhelming desire to return. Rashford was impeccable today!"
