In 2023, Gabriela, the ex-girlfriend of Manchester United winger Anthony Maffeos, uncovered an unspoken strife through a report by the British newspaper The Sun. A year-long investigation by Brazilian police ultimately resulted in a lack of evidence and the Brazilian star had to be cleared of control charges against the 24-year-old, which included assault, unlawful detention and death threats.
Last year, Gabriela went in front of the Brazilian media and described in detail the punches and kicks Anthony inflicted during her pregnancy in June 2022, as well as the renewed violence six months later, which resulted in physical damage. In addition to this, two other women also accused Anthony of violent behavior, but one of them eventually withdrew her allegations. In the face of the allegations, Anthony vehemently denied them and voluntarily asked the police to intervene in the investigation to clear his name.
Now, the Brazilian police have declared the case closed, confirming that no direct evidence of domestic violence by Anthony was found. This has undoubtedly lifted a huge amount of pressure from Anthony. Earlier, Anthony had said that he was not satisfied with his on-court performance in the past year, after all, what happened during the year made him and his family endure too much. But he also said that he had grown a lot during that time and learned how to face adversity. So, will Anthony be able to turn things around on the court after getting rid of the domestic violence allegations? It's all worth watching together.
