This year's Saudi Pro League is significant for Ainas, not only because they were runners-up again last season, but also because they vowed to win the title. Nonetheless, last week's 1-4 defeat to Hilal in the Saudi Super Cup showed that there is still room for improvement for Aynas.
Former league top scorer Kristian Ronaldo scored 35 goals last season, but at the ripe old age of 39 he is no longer young and his agility has dipped in recent years. As such, whether he can return to glory this season will largely depend on creative players and keepers who can create chances for him on the ball. Still, when I saw his goal against Hilal, I was convinced that he has what it takes to be the league's top scorer this season.
Teliska was one of the most outstanding performers for Ainas last season. Despite missing a number of games due to injury, he still proved himself with a 16-goal tally. In fact, he was a threat from any position in front of goal, be it set pieces, overhead kicks or long range shots.
It's worth noting that I think Shadi Owaini needs to improve his performance. He shone during his time with Liverpool, but failed to find his best form after joining the Shahs. Therefore, I expect him to perform better in the new season.
Last season, Ainas only lost four league games, but that included a home defeat to Elad. Therefore, I think Airad is an opponent not to be underestimated.
Abegaoo is the most threatening striker for Elad. If Aynas is out of control up front, Mohamed Kozia may be able to find a gap in the opposing defense and finish the breakthrough. Aynas' tactical focus will be to stay tightly organized, reduce the threat of key players, and find good opportunities through counter-attacks.
However, the fact that Ainas scored 100 goals last season makes me confident that they will do well in the new season of the SAL.
