EWT's central midfielder, Banff Weddie, has been in the spotlight due to the transfer fiasco, with his name being closely linked to Manchester United, like a bright star being "up for sale". According to the Daily Mail, the 22-year-old soccer star, who is in a contractual bottleneck, has made a shocking request to financially-strapped Ewarton: he is demanding the same £160,000 weekly salary (about HK$1.6 million) as United, or he will refuse to renew his contract, making it clear that he is eager to move on.

It is reported that despite Manchester United's interest in Banfwedi, EWT has twice rejected United's offer because the "Red Devils" insisted on a transfer fee of 70 million pounds (about 700 million Hong Kong dollars), a figure far exceeding United's 50 million pounds, making the transfer deal almost at a standstill. Banff Weddie, who also apparently wanted to join the giants, demanded that Ewarton offer a salary of £160,000 a week, comparable to that of Manchester United, or he would not stay with the team. Obviously, this is a huge burden for Ewarton, with the surge in individual salaries forcing the club to consider selling players.

Currently earning just £70,000 a week, Banff Weddie has almost doubled his salary demands. With such a lion's share of the money and the fact that he still has three years left on his contract, I'm sure Ewarton won't let him go easily.
