United's two Danish internationals, Helen Dahl Thomason and Gisdian Christiansen, have returned to the squad during the European break and will soon embark on a trip to the United States with the team to take part in pre-season matches. They will reportedly make their season debuts against Arsenal next Sunday (28).
Helen and Gisdian played key roles in helping Denmark's journey to the last 16 of the Europa League, earning valuable time off. And they, like Portugal's captain Fernandes, were never able to return to the national team, despite their respective roles in the finals in Portugal and Argentina. Lisindo Martinez, for example, reached the final for England, while another player won the Copa America final for Argentina, but the team's overall squad still looked tattered.
The core of the midfield, McTominay and Harry Magouni, are unavailable due to injuries and continue to recuperate. While the return of Heron and Kirsten brings a glimmer of hope for United, the overall strength of the squad remains in doubt.
United's pre-season tour of the United States will see them take on the likes of Arsenal, Betis and Liverpool before returning to the UK to finalize preparations for the Community Shield clash with Manchester City on August 10th.
