Shaking up the football world! Southampton have officially announced the signing of Alkmaar Japanese star Suga Kisei on a four-year contract until 2028. Following in the footsteps of Maya Yoshida and Takumi Minamino, Suga has risen to become the new star of Saints' Japanese soccer.
Suga made his debut with the Nagoya Whales. 2019 saw him embark on a European soccer journey. At first, he honed his skills in the lower leagues of the Netherlands. He then joined Alkmaar, where he made 165 appearances and collected 11 goals in five years, and in the last three seasons has made more than 40 appearances per season, playing both right back and right midfield positions. In addition, he has made 13 appearances for the Japanese national team, including a key goal in last year's warm-up win over Germany.
Southampton have a penchant for Japanese players. Maya Yoshida played for Liverpool for 8 years, and Takumi Minamino was even loaned by them from Liverpool. Recently, in addition to signing Sugawara, the club has been actively approaching a number of new stars, including 17-year-old talented teenager Ushiro Takaoka and 21-year-old FC Tokyo midfielder Kusei Matsuki, who is about to be voted in.
