The Sun has revealed that Manchester United's newest investor, Ratcliffe, is trying to cut the club's expenses and has embarked on a program of layoffs. This time the scope is very wide, from ordinary staff to the popular football stars, all exceptions. Lashford, for example, faced the brunt of the transfer rumors after a significant decline in his game last season. United are reportedly ready to lower their asking price, and will not hesitate to release the 26-year-old shot-stopper as long as a transfer fee of 60 million pounds (about 600 million Hong Kong dollars) is agreed upon.

Manchester United, who once valued Rashford at up to £100 million (about HK$1 billion), are now in the midst of a controversy. Some have accused United of overpricing the player, calling him an overrated "foo foo". In fact, Rashford scored only eight goals in 43 games last season, which is clearly a sub-par performance for a striker. Coupled with the deterioration of the relationship with coach Tannhäuser, United have to face the reality that as long as they receive an offer of 60 million pounds, they will not hesitate to sell "Foo".

However, very few clubs are currently interested in Lashford. Among them, Paris Saint-Germain are seen as the biggest potential buyers. The French giants are desperate to add a striker rather than letting go of Kylian Mbappe, but they are holding back on the £60 million transfer fee demanded by Manchester United, a disagreement that has become a key issue.

It's worth noting that United implemented a redundancy program on Wednesday (3), with a total of 250 departures, or about 22% of the total number of players.
