In a tightly contested match, Switzerland drew 1-1 with Germany, leaving them with a record of one win and two draws in three matches this year, by virtue of their group standings. Since the 2014 World Cup, Switzerland has advanced to the knockout stages of six consecutive international tournaments. Central midfielder Gleshaga was voted the best player of the tournament, and his number of individual MVP honors ranks second in the European nation's history.

In this match, Gleshaga showed excellent offensive and defensive skills, creating several counter-attacking chances for the Swiss team. Following on from his first game against Hungary, he was again voted Man of the Match in his second game of the season, marking the fifth time he has won European national MVP honors. Historically, Portugal's C Ronaldo tops the list with MVPs every six times, while Spain's Ennistad ranks second with MVPs every six times.

After the match, Gleshaga said: "It was disappointing to lose the lead at the last minute, but I showed my character and I'm happy about that. The Swiss team has taken a crucial step forward and is looking forward to the next match against a new opponent. After this match, I'm sure the Swiss will earn more respect from their opponents."
