Shocking news spread across the internet on Saturday (15): former Arsenal team spirit, Chiyungan, passed away at the age of 54 due to a sudden acute illness. On social media, Arsenal's official account and many of his former teammates have expressed their condolences.
Back at the beginning of this month, Chiyungam had taken to social media to reveal that he had been hospitalized for an emergency and described himself as being in extreme discomfort. After two weeks of hospitalization, the sudden passing on Saturday was saddening. On Arsenal's official website, officials expressed their shock at the sudden news and emphasized the high status of striker Chiungan in the hearts of the fans. Former teammates Ian and Adams also took to social media to commemorate the occasion by posting precious old photos with Chiungan.
Chiyungan, born in 1970, joined the Arsenal youth team at the age of 15. He had an illustrious career with Arsenal until 1995, playing 213 matches and scoring 59 goals. His achievements were numerous: in 1991, he helped Arsenal win the English First Division title (the Premier League had not yet been born), and won the English League, the English soccer team and the European Championship. After retiring from football, he played for a number of clubs including Ewarton, Nottingham Forest, West Bromwich Albion, and Cardiff City, before transitioning into a soccer punditry role at the end of his career.
