When Manchester United's captain Tannhäuser helped his team win the EFL Cup under pressure, his future position seemed to be secure. Looking back at the history, the godfather of the Red Devils in the 1989/90 season, Mr. Ferguson, also experienced a similar storm of public opinion. That year, he not only led Manchester United to win the EFL Cup, successfully avoiding the fate of dismissal, but also opened a brilliant chapter of the Red Devils' dynasty. Will this happen again with Tanhag?

Back in November 1986, Ferguson took over as United's manager, and his initial coaching performance was not satisfactory. In particular, in the 1989/90 season, the team won 13, drew 9 and lost 16 of their 38 league matches, finishing 13th in the league. The situation at the time was even worse than this season, and Ferguson even came close to being sacked. Fortunately, at the end of the season, he led the team to win the English football championship, and three years later won the Premier League trophy, starting a period of United's glorious years.

At the moment, Tannhäuser is in a rather similar position to Ferguson. He has already won one title for his team, despite his unsatisfactory results in the league. Can he be the next "Mr. Ferguson" and lead Manchester United to take off again? Whether or not United should change their coach is a tricky decision to make.

It's worth noting that another Dutch name, Younger, helped United win the 2016 title, yet was ultimately sacked. What will be the fate of Tannhäuser? Will he make the same mistake as Younger, or will he become the "new Faye Sir" on the pitch? All that remains to be seen.
