The Premier League season is coming to an end and the title race is getting more and more intense, however, Manchester City is the first to come out on top in the Mr. Football of England contest. Winger Phil Cotton, with his outstanding performance, managed to beat Arsenal's De Gruyne Rice to be crowned Mr. English Footballer. This is the third time in the past four years that the "Blue Moon" has won this honor.
The English Footballer of the Year was voted on by around 900 members of the media and 18 players were shortlisted this season. Phil Cotton, who has contributed 22 goals and 10 assists this season, tops the list with 42% of the vote. He is followed by Deaglan Rice, Lodi Kasjandi, Martin Odigat and Onitsujins, who are in third to sixth place alongside seventh-placed Galpenma. Meanwhile, the winner of Miss Football England was also announced, with Kavdi Chassell, also from Manchester City, winning the award.
Looking back at history, the award has been monopolized by Manchester City and Liverpool players since 2017-2018. Mohamed Shahna has won the award twice and former Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has won it once. City, on the other hand, have won four awards in the last six seasons - Stanning, Rubin Dyas, Enin Shalane and Phil Cotton.
