Last year, Liverpool's striker Mohammed Shah became the toast of Saudi Arabia. Rumor has it that the Etihad tried to bag him for a whopping £150 million, only to be rebuffed. But don't worry, the Etihad haven't given up and they plan to make a comeback this summer. However, the latest news suggests that Mohammed Shah has no interest in leaving Liverpool, and the new Liverpool director has shown a willingness to extend his contract. The Etihad have reportedly adjusted their strategy and are instead focusing on Tottenham's South Korean star Son Heung-min.
Despite Mohammed Shah having just one year left on his contract with Liverpool, the departure of former boss Gopp has not shaken his resolve. New director Michael Ewers has been a big fan of Mohammed Shah and plans to offer him a new contract. According to The Athletic, while Saudi Arabia remain on the lookout for Mohammed Shah, they won't be splashing out as much money as they did last year, which undoubtedly reduces the likelihood of a successful transfer.
Renowned journalist Rudy-Galetti revealed that Etihad have already made a replacement plan for Mohammed Shah's departure, targeting Sun Heung-min.Galetti said, "Etihad chose Sun Heung-min as Mohammed Shah's replacement and are still eager to sign Mohammed Shah, but progress is slow. Sun Xingmin's name is becoming more and more important as time goes by." By the summer of 2025, Son Heung-min's contract will have been extended by one year, at which point Etihad will have to pay a huge transfer fee to land him.
