In last week's midterm Champions Cup one-eighth final, Inter Maia Mi went down 1-2 at home to Monterrey, while Ballon d'Or winner Mace, who was missing due to injury, argued with the rival coach on the bench. After the match, he questioned the referee along with his teammates. Recently, a recording of Monterrey's assistant coach Nicosanzis was revealed, in which he called Mace "the devil's midget".
In a public recording by Fox Sports Mexico, Nicosanzis said, "Mez tried to attack me, his fist almost touched my face, I don't think it was a hand, but a provocation." Speaking about the situation in the locker room, Nicosanzis went on to say, "Mace was making a fuss on the field. If I was ejected early in the morning, Martino would leave in anger and rant. He had the face of a devil and the mentality of a midget, and with his fists clenched he threatened me, 'Who do you think you are'... Poor Martinu, just their puppet. I'm sure those CCTV footage has been deleted by them because the footage will show their bad behavior."
Nicosanzis made waves with this "insulting" comment, and although he later apologized in a film, he did not mention Mays in his apology video: "I don't know Martino, but I will speak with 'respect! ' to speak, the department should apologize, but I will always protect my team." Monterrey will return home on Thursday (11) to meet the challenge of the International Maia Mi.
