As the Premier League takes a turn for the worse, Ewarton FC are unfortunate to be in the spotlight once again, having had two points deducted from their points tally due to alleged breaches of profit and sustainability clauses, and instantly falling to 16th place, just two places clear of the relegation zone.
Dating back to November last year, Ewarton were heavily fined and had a one-off deduction of 10 points for making a loss of up to £124.5 million during the Profit and Sustainability Assessment period. The club then managed to recover four points, but this year once again two points were deducted for allegedly eroding funds by £16.6 million over the course of the 2022-2023 season, in breach of regulations.
Even after a 10-point deduction and a 4-point recovery, as well as two deductions at home, Ewarton's points tally finally settled at an 8-point deduction. This made the team slipped from the original 15th place to 16th place, with 27 points, only 2 points away from Luton in the relegation zone. The situation is so serious that the club urgently stated that it will file an appeal to try to recover the loss of points.
