On Thursday (22), the Spanish judiciary ruled on the alleged rape case of former Brazilian soccer superstar Daniel, finding him guilty of a felony and sentencing him to four years and six months in prison.
Daniel, 40, is suspected of sexually assaulting and attacking a 23-year-old woman in December 2022 at a nightclub in Barcelona. Faced with the allegations, Daniel first denied them and then repeatedly changed his statement, from initially claiming not to know the victim to later claiming that they had only met once and arguing that he was drunk, and then claiming that the sex was consensual, emphasizing that he had not committed rape. However, the forensic report showed that alcohol had only a slight effect on Daniel's cognitive ability. Daniels has been detained without bail since January last year, and although he has applied for parole several times, it has not been granted. The prosecution originally asked for a nine-year prison sentence, while the victim's lawyer asked for 12 years, and the court finally sentenced Daniel to four years and six months in prison and 150,000 euros in compensation for the victim.
