In the early hours of Friday morning, Westham drew 1-1 at home with Fennymouth in the Premier League. Notably, midfielder Gianfranco Gavin Filas, who was on loan from Manchester City, suffered a mishap on his debut - a controversial suicide assist that allowed the visitors to capitalize on the opportunity to score.
Nonetheless, Westham manager David Moyes did not blame Gavin Filas and instead expressed his belief that he would improve as he adapted to his new surroundings. It is worth noting that Gavin Filas was named in the starting lineup upon joining the club, but who would have guessed that he would make a mistake just three minutes into his first game. As defender Gertsouma crossed the ball into the opposition box, Gavin Filas, in his haste to return the ball, accidentally passed the ball to Solanki, who was in an offside position, and the latter scored with ease. Replays showed that even if the Westham player had touched the ball before Solanki, it would not have changed the fact that he was offside, and Gavin Filas's unintentional action made it possible for the opponents to score a goal.
Fortunately for Westham, Woteps slotted home a penalty in the second half to salvage a point and avoid a full time loss.
