Former Swedish soccer star coach Aleksson, who is suffering from advanced pancreatic cancer, confirmed on Wednesday (14) that he will fulfill his long-cherished dream of coaching Liverpool by taking charge of the club at a charity match next month. Team leader Jurgen Klopp said it would be a heartwarming gift and said he would invite Ariksen to his office for an in-depth chat.
Aleksson revealed that he had been feeling unwell for a long time and was eventually diagnosed with advanced pancreatic cancer, with a life expectancy of no more than a year. The former manager of England, Manchester City, Roma and Lazio is a self-proclaimed die-hard Liverpool fan who longed to be in charge of the Reds. Now, Liverpool is helping him fulfill his dream, as he will lead his team as manager against Ajax in a charity match on March 23rd.
Liverpool's official statement said, "We warmly welcome Aleksson and his family to Anfield to make this game even more meaningful." Jurgen Klopp also said, "If he wants, I can let him work for me for a day."
