In the early hours of Saturday morning, Ligue 1 played host to a marquee match in which Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) defeated Strasbourg away from home by a score of 2-1. PSG star Kilian McBarbie scored a goal despite missing a penalty, a feat that made him the first player since 1970/71 to score 20 or more goals in the first 20 rounds of an opening Ligue 1 season.
Just six minutes into the match, PSG had a penalty kick opportunity, which Kilian McBarbie took himself, but was saved by Strasbourg keeper Bilaluzzi. According to Stats Foot, Kylian McBarbie has failed to score 4 out of his last 12 penalties in Ligue 1, which is not a good strike rate.
However, after pouncing on the penalty, Bilaluji accidentally gave away a big gift. In the 31st minute of the game, he made a mistake in clearing the ball, allowing PSG wing Marko Assinsio to score, and the ball rebounded to the feet of Kilian McBarbie, who easily put it into the empty net to kick-start his scoring run.
Shortly after the changeover, Kilian McBarbie passed on his good fortune to Margaux Acinsio, who extended the lead to 2-0, and although Strasbourg pulled a goal back after that, the result did not stop PSG from taking all three points, as they lead the table by nine points and are ahead of Nice, who have played a game less.
