Friday's Asian Cup marquee match at the Doha South Stadium saw South Korea and Australia go head-to-head. South Korea, who were the first to break through, won 2-1 after 120 minutes of intense fighting, thanks to a penalty kick goal by Hwang Hee-chan and an extra-time penalty by Son Heung-min, to finish off an Australian team that was down to 10 men in the final moments of the match.

In this match, the "Kangaroo Army" made personnel changes, Chiji Gwun and Michelle Durkee returned to the starting lineup, Jaesun Ayun and Gunnar McAfee in the midfield, the goalkeeper is still Mafi Ryan; while the South Korean team, Cho Kyu-sung returned to the starting lineup, and Hwang Hee-chan for the first time as a starter, and Lee Kang-jin partner on the left and right wings.

Despite South Korea's dominant possession in the opening half, Australia's counterattacks were more powerful. In the 20th minute, Kijiji Geun fired a shot from inside the penalty area that was narrowly missed by South Korean goalkeeper Cho Hyun-woo. In the 32nd minute, Hwang Hee-chan took a pass from Seol Young-woo and shot into the empty net, but then the referee ruled it offside, so he missed a good opportunity. In the 42nd minute, Australia crossed the right road and Kijiji Geun scored a long-distance shot, giving the Kangaroo Army the lead before the end of the half.

In the second half, Australia had a chance to extend their lead, but Martyn Paul had two shots blocked by Cho Hyun-woo in the penalty area. South Korea stabilized their position and then attacked with all their might, using side passes to hit the Australian penalty area. In the end, the Kangaroos were equalized by Son Heung-min in stoppage time, and Hwang Hee-chan took a penalty kick to help the Tigers equalize in legal time.
