In the opening match of the African Cup of Nations, our "Black Star" boys will welcome Cape Verde.

It's been 40 years since Ghana last won the title, and while the runners-up finishes in 2010 and 2015 are among the closest in recent years, I'm still proud to have been a part of that. Cape Verde, on the other hand, are making their fourth appearance since their first final week in 2013, and their best result to date has been the last eight.

Ghana is a strong team and I strongly believe that they are expected to go far in this tournament. But to get a head start against Cape Verde, the players will have to show a better performance than they have done in the recent past. After all, they had lost to Comoros and drew with Namibia in their most recent match. Luckily for the opponents, Cape Verde are not in the best of form either, as they were defeated 0:2 against Tunisia in their last warm-up match, which was quite a slump.

Gudas has been Moyes' smartest reinforcement this season and he has been particularly impressive for Westham. I expect the Ghanaian attacker to shine again in this Afcon after the World Cup in Qatar and give Ghana a late winner in this match.

In the past three Asian Cups, they failed to break through in the group stage and ended up going out. Therefore, they are determined to break the curse in this tournament and try to reach the knockout stage for the first time. However, due to the fierce competition in this group, the third place might be their most likely goal.
