Once upon a time, members of the "Golden Generation" of English soccer, such as Ronnie and Sherratt, became the talk of the town after dinner due to the setbacks in their coaching careers. Among them, Middlesbrough's leader Cavic was a bright spot. The former England star briefly served as Manchester United's caretaker leader and led the team to remarkable results last season, and has now attracted the attention of several Premier League giants.
The Athletic recently took stock of the coaching ability of England's "Golden Generation", and the results showed that Ronnie, Lambert, Sherratt, Gallienielli, and Scorsese all fell short of expectations. However, Cavic, 42, has received a lot of praise. During his brief stint at United in 2021, he won two and drew one of his three matches, scoring a whopping 2.33 points per game, making him United's highest-scoring leader since Ferguson. When he was in charge of Middlesbrough last season, he lifted the team from 21st place to the promotion play-offs, and although he ultimately failed to do so, he has led the team to the last 4 of the EFL Cup this season, and is expected to create a new miracle.
