Legendary coach Saganu passed away at his residence on Saturday (6) at the age of 92. He was not only a close friend of "King" Pele, but also a unique figure in the history of soccer who won four World Cups as both a player and a coach.
Saganu has been on the World Cup stage six times, winning the trophy as a player in 1958 and 1962, and as a team leader or assistant coach in 1970, 1974, 1994 and 1998, leading Brazil to victory in 1970 and again as an assistant coach in 1994. Saganu has been closely associated with Brazilian soccer's five World Cup triumphs, winning the trophy on all four occasions.
Saganu was the first of only three men in the history of the World Cup to win the title as both player and coach, a feat also accomplished by Beauregard and Diggens, and was honored as "The Professor" after Brazil's 1994 victory, when he won both the Rémy and the Copa del Rey trophies of two different eras.
