In a dramatic reversal of fortune in June 2023, Binschmar left Real Madrid for Saudi Arabian giants Ittihad with determination. However, the 36-year-old French striker's half-season career appears to be coming to an end. He missed two consecutive days of training on Thursday and Friday, and even more surprisingly, he suddenly cleared his social media account on Instagram (IG), leading to speculation that he was planning to terminate his contract prematurely and leave the club.

Binschmar, who has a contract with the Etihad until 2025 and earns a whopping 200 million euros (HK$1.72 billion) a year, has scored 15 goals in 24 matches played at the Etihad as the 2022 Ballon d'Or winner. But Binschmar's performance has been widely criticized by fans after Etihad suffered a 2-5 defeat in their most recent match against former Real Madrid teammate Cairo's Aynas, who are currently seventh in the league.

Binschmar is understood to have become disgruntled with the fans as a result, shutting down his personal social media accounts and refusing to interact with them. Even more concerning was his absence from training, sparking speculation that he was leaving the team. However, Spanish newspaper Marca reported that Binschmar was allowed to leave the team for treatment due to an injury.
