In the early hours of Wednesday morning, the Europa League was lit up, but the two Premier League giants met their Waterloo. Manchester United suffered an unexpected defeat at home to Galatasaray, while Arsenal also lost 1-2 to Lens on the road in Group B. Worse still, Arsenal's star player Bukajorska was injured in the first half, and is feared to miss next Sunday's (8th) Premier League match at home against Manchester City, a double loss.
Although Arsenal did not go all out this campaign for next week's battle with Manchester City, the overall performance was mediocre. Only in the 14th minute of the game did Gabier Jecis take the lead with a quick goal, capitalizing on a mistake by the Lens backline. However, the score was quickly leveled in the 25th minute when Arsenal goalkeeper David Laye misplayed a long pass and was met by a clever shot from Aideen Thomason. With Bukayosha leaving the field with an injury, the game took another turn for the worse in the 69th minute when Lens striker Elwahy stole the ball and scored. Despite an all-out attack late in the game, Arsenal were unable to break through and eventually fell to a 1-2 defeat.
