On Saturday, Manchester United suffered a 0-1 defeat at home to Crystal Palace in the Premier League. It marked the first time since 1989 that United lost four games in the first seven rounds of a league match. After the match, manager Tannhäuser said the result was "unacceptable" and denied there were any excuses. Piers Morgan, a well-known English soccer pundit, also blasted Tannhäuser, saying that it was the expulsion of Cristiano Ronaldo that made Tannhäuser a "cancer" for United.

A huge chorus of boos rang out at the Otford Stadium after United's home defeat. Tannhäuser said after the match, "I understand [the boos from the fans], it's not a disrespect against the opponent. Manchester United deserve to win whether they play Crystal Palace at home or away. The fans expected us to win this game, but we failed to do so. I could give a lot of reasons for the loss, but you might think it's just an excuse. In reality, there are no more excuses for United's current results."
