In the recent Premier League match, Liverpool's Dutch center back Vakil Vundjic (VVD) was shown a red card for a technical foul during the Newcastle match, which in itself only resulted in a one-match suspension. However, due to VVD's aggressive attitude when leaving the field and even speaking out against the referee, the FA, after thorough investigation, decided to impose an additional penalty: VVD was suspended for an additional match and fined £100,000 (approximately HK$980,000). In this way, we will not have the chance to see Wendy Jaques in Liverpool's away match against Wolves on the night of September 16th.
The incident, in which VVD was fouled while defending Newcastle striker Alexandre Ishaq, should have only been a yellow card, but instead he received a red card for overreacting. Although his previous absence had already put Liverpool at a disadvantage against Aston Villa, this additional suspension certainly added to the team's burden. The FA noted after the investigation that Yundjak had admitted his misconduct and apologized to the referee for his inappropriate comments, and in accordance with the rules, he was given an aggravated punishment.
Via social media, Windy Jaques accepted the punishment and said it was the first time he had received a red card since playing for Liverpool. He admitted that he was impulsive and apologized to the referee, saying that he was willing to learn from his mistakes and look to the future. Although it was previously rumored that VVD could face a three-match suspension, only one additional match was ultimately handed out, which made VVD feel grateful and made him willing to accept the result head on.
