After an embarrassing start to the new season with two defeats, Chelsea FC have not been discouraged and are once again splashing the cash in the transfer market. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano revealed that the Blues have reached an agreement with USL's newest team, the New England Revolution, to sign their goalkeeper Paddy Power for a fee of 16 million euros (HK$136 million), which will be the highest transfer fee ever for a goalkeeper in the USL.

In the summer, Chelsea first lost two goalkeepers in Edoardo Yavendi and Aleksandar Banaga, and then brought in Roberto Sanzis as the number one goalkeeper. Now, at the age of 23, Serbian international Berdych is also joining the team and has signed a seven-year long-term contract with the club. It was reported that Berdych was also a target for Manchester United, but Chelsea beat them to it with a decisive move.
