A week after making waves in the transfer market, Manchester United decided to sign Westham star Harry Makouni for £30 million (HK$300 million), but the deal has stalled due to a disagreement over personal terms. On the eve of the Red Devils' first match of the new season (Tuesday 15), coach Tannhäuser issued a stern warning to the ex-captain: "If you don't have confidence in your ability to compete for a starting place, then leave while you can!"
Despite the transfer fee having been negotiated, the £120,000 (about HK$1.2 million) weekly salary offered by Westham for Halimaguni is a far cry from the £190,000 (about HK$1.9 million) he was offered at Manchester United. United are reportedly willing to pay an additional £6 million (about HK$60 million) in compensation for the loss of salary in the final two years of his contract. Nonetheless, the deal is still up in the air.
