In the passionate English Premier League, besides the traditional "Big 6", the emerging forces such as Newcastle, Aston Villa and Brighton are also emerging, and all of them are trying their best to compete for the four precious European seats. On Wednesday (9), the Premier League made an exciting announcement: after the upcoming UEFA overhaul, the Premier League could be awarded five UEFA spots for the new season, and even more dramatically, there could be as many as seven teams competing for the European stage!
In a statement, Premier League officials revealed, "For the first time in the history of the Premier League, five teams could potentially qualify for the UEFA Europa League on the basis of league position alone." Under the new UEFA rules for the 2024/2025 season, the two leagues with the highest points in European competitions from the previous season will be awarded an extra UEFA seat. This means that the top five teams in the Premier League this season are all expected to be in contention for the UEFA Europa League (2024/2025) if Premier League teams continue to perform as well as they have done in Europe in recent years this season.
