Following an unfortunate injury to 21-year-old Ivorian starlet Amit Diarou during a warm-up match between Manchester United and Arsenal, United officials immediately announced that the player's knee injury would see him miss a number of fixtures at the start of the season. The news forced the club to cancel a loan deal for Amit Diarou to ensure that he would stay in the team for the new season and seek more playing opportunities.

Amit Diaru left the game with an injury after only 13 minutes on the bench, and coach Tannhäuser had been optimistic that he would be back after only 3 days of rest. However, as of now, he has missed nearly three consecutive warm-up matches and the club has confirmed that he will not be able to participate in the Premier League at the start of the season.

In January 2021, Amit Diarou joined Manchester United from Atlanta for a transfer fee of €25 million (about HK$210 million). Although he was not utilized much after joining the club, his performance during his loan spell was very impressive. In the last season, he showed his strength by making 42 appearances for Championship side Newlands, contributing 14 goals. Tannhäuser will want to further observe Amit Diaru's performance in the pre-season warm-up matches in order to make a decision on the next step.
