Manchester United's preparation schedule has been extremely tight in the exotic United States. On Wednesday (26th) they played a "warm-up" match between their B team and League Two side Westham, just before their clash with Real Madrid in the early hours of Thursday morning (27th). Despite the fact that Tannhäuser was at the helm of the team, and Johnny Ioannis was leading the way, the newcomers got out of hand and lost 1-3 with 10 men.

United fielded a B team for this match, with Johnny Evans leading a host of newcomers. However, they were unable to cope with Westham's physical tactics. Goalkeeper Nathan Bishop recklessly ran out of the box and knocked down Westham's striker Mullen, resulting in the opposing player needing oxygen treatment and emergency hospitalization. Had it not been for Johnny Evans defending, Nathan Bishop would have been penalized with more than a yellow card.

Westham played more aggressively after their star players were injured. They scored twice in the 29th and 36th minutes, while United broke the deadlock in the first half stoppage time with 19-year-old Spanish right winger Zurado. Just one minute into the second half, United midfielder Gore was shown a red card for a rough tackle. Westham added a second goal in the 69th minute to give the Welsh side a 3-1 win over United in front of a crowd of over 30,000 spectators.
