In the CONCACAF Gold Cup, the U.S. showed unrivaled dominance. Early Monday morning, they swept Trinidad 6-0 at home in the final round of Group A, edging out Jamaica to advance to the top of the group on the strength of two wins, one draw and a better goal differential. U.S. forward Jesse Flanner scored a hat trick in his second consecutive game, becoming the first player in U.S. team history to score two consecutive "hat tricks".

In the previous round, Team USA had also defeated St. Kitts and Nevis by a score of 6-0. Against Trinidad, Team USA was no slouch. D.C. United's Jesse Flanner, who had scored three goals in the previous game, scored all of the U.S. team's first 3-0 goals in the first half, becoming the first player in U.S. team history to achieve this feat; in the second half, the U.S. team scored three more goals and eventually beat their opponents by a score of 6-0.
