Manchester United recently launched a bidding war for Chelsea, the third time they have thrown down the gauntlet, with the intention of bringing midfield general Mason Monty into the fold for a whopping £55 million (HK$548 million). However, the London giants have turned a blind eye to the offer. According to The Times, United have decided not to pursue the 24-year-old England international and have instead set their sights on Brighton midfielder Moses Scarborough.

Chelsea, on the other hand, did not give an inch and insisted on a transfer fee of 65 million pounds (about HK$647 million). However, United assessed that with only one year left on his contract and a clear refusal to extend it, there was no need to take Chelsea's harsh terms, so they preferred to wait patiently. Once Masonmont returns to free agency, United will be able to sign him without having to pay a transfer fee. It is reported that the two sides have already reached a preliminary agreement on the matter, and Masonmont is willing to become a member of Manchester United next summer.
