With Tottenham Hotspur missing out on Europe this season, their top star Harry Carney has become the subject of a scramble by major giants. German giants Bayern Munich made a whopping £60.2 million (HK$600 million) offer to Tottenham on Tuesday (27) and have reached a preliminary agreement with Carney on the details of his personal contract, according to a number of reputable media outlets. However, Tottenham rejected the offer decisively, believing that the £60 million amount was a great devaluation of Carney's value and preferred to let him leave on a free transfer the following year.
Media outlets such as Germany's Bild-Zeitung and The Athletic further revealed that a takeover bid was quickly submitted to Tottenham after Bayern reached a verbal agreement with Carney on personal terms. However, the offer was rejected by Tottenham as it fell far short of the £100 million (HK$1 billion) they were expecting. Although club chairman Levy still holds out hope that Carney will extend his contract, the worst-case scenario would be to allow Carney to join another club as a free agent next year.
