Luton, the fairytale town team, has just made it to the Premier League, a feat that has not only brought in a whopping £180 million (HK$1.742 billion) in revenue for the club, but has also been accompanied by a series of pressing challenges. As the summer transfer window opens, Luton will not only have to aggressively bring in reinforcements to boost their squad, but also complete a complete overhaul of their dilapidated, more than 100-year-old home stadium in one hundred and twenty days to ensure that it is able to meet the standards of the Premier League.
Luton's Kenilworth Road stadium, built in 1905, has a capacity of just 10,356, the lowest in the Premier League. The main entrance to the stadium consists of just two blue iron gates, and fans have to walk through a nearby residential back alley to get in. According to the Daily Mail, Luton is planning to spend £10 million (HK$96.8 million) on the partial redevelopment of the stadium, including the addition of a media center, data analysis room, restrooms, and cafeteria, as well as upgrades to hardware such as floodlights and seating, all of which must be completed within twelve weeks of the offseason.
