As the Ligue 1 season draws to a close, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) beat Auxerre 2-1 in a thrilling away match in the early hours of Monday morning, giving them a six-point lead over second-placed Lens with only two rounds of the league remaining. What's more, PSG's goal difference is as high as 16, giving them a 99.9% probability of winning the title, and they only need one more point to be declared champions.
PSG's last away win over Auxerre was 15 years ago, yet this time they got off to the perfect start. Kilian McBarbee broke the deadlock in just six minutes, and then again two minutes later from a cross by Mays to make it 2-0, and although Auxerre pulled a goal back in the 51st minute, PSG held on to their lead with a 2-1 scoreline. PSG is now 6 points ahead of Lens, with both teams having equal head-to-head records, and PSG has an absolute advantage in terms of goals scored and conceded, so Lens has almost zero chance of catching up.
