FC Barcelona has offered 35-year-old Argentine soccer superstar Lionel Messi a two-year contract with an annual salary of up to 25 million euros (HK$210 million) in anticipation of the soccer legend's return to the team, according to the Daily Sports Daily. Although the offer is slightly shabby compared to that of Saudi Arabian giants Hilal, the Barcelona hierarchy is confident that Messi will gladly accept the offer in order to show his prowess in Europe's top leagues.

Barcelona are understood to be planning a radical streamlining of their squad this summer, aiming to free up 120 million euros (about HK$1 billion) in salary space. This will allow for the registration of a new generation of core players such as Gavi and Ronald Anaozu, in addition to reserving enough space for Messi to join the team.
