Westham's performance this season has been inconsistent, and at one point they were in a relegation crisis. Fortunately, they have recently rebounded and managed to reach the quarterfinals of the UEFA Europa League tournament, which will hopefully lead to a trophy at the end of the season. Westham's comeback has been inextricably linked to the rise of Brazilian midfielder Lucas Paquita. The high-priced star has been in blistering form after half a year, scoring many times, but manager David Moyes expects more from him, emphasizing that he still needs to prove that he is not a "waterboy".
Westham brought in Lucas Paquita from Lyon for a whopping £51 million (about HK$500 million) last season, however his performances were not up to the level of a Brazilian international. Until last month, he suddenly broke out and scored in three of his last four matches. Lucas Paquita said, "I need time to adapt to the rhythm and physical demands of the Premier League, now I believe I am 100% integrated and I hope to get better and better in the future, at the same time I am trying to learn English and keep improving myself."
