After Newcastle's win against Tottenham, the focus quickly turned to the retention or departure of goalscorer Harry Carney. It is reported that Manchester United has thrown an olive branch to Halikani before the recent away game against Tottenham, offering a generous offer of up to £300,000 weekly salary (about HK$2.94 million). At the same time, the Tottenham Hotspur side of the transfer fee bid for Halikani for 100 million pounds.

According to the Daily Telegraph, 29-year-old Khalilani has been recognized as a top target after an internal meeting at Manchester United, even more important than Napoli winger Vitor Ossenhan. Halikani is the number 9 player that coach Tannhäuser desperately needs, and his rich experience in the Premier League allows him to play both center forward and second striker, partnering with Rashford to create a powerful attacking front line.

A win for United against Tottenham in midweek would further weaken the Spurs' European qualification bid, thus increasing the likelihood of Hallikani's departure. Currently, Halikani has one year left on his contract with Tottenham, and even the manager has failed to renew his contract, so the likelihood of renewal is slim. In order to avoid a lose-lose situation, Tottenham are likely to sell him this summer.

Tottenham chairman Livi had rejected a £100m offer from Manchester City in 2021 and was adamant about keeping Halikani, boosting his weekly wages to £200,000 a week. However, two years on, Spurs have still not been able to break their title drought, and Halikani's desire to leave the club this summer has become stronger.
