Liverpool's Premier League record this season has been in a state of flux, currently sitting in 7th place in the league, not only is there little hope of qualifying for the top four in the UEFA Europa League, but even participating in the UEFA Cup is full of challenges. However, thanks to the "help" of Manchester United's advancement to the EFL Cup final, Liverpool is expected to compete in the UEFA Europa League, or even the UEFA Cup, even if it retains its current 7th place, thus avoiding the risk of "relegation" next season.
The Premier League's allocation of seats in European competitions was originally for the top four teams to enter the UEFA Europa League directly, the fifth place to compete with the EFL Cup winners for the UEFA Cup, and the winner of the EFL Cup to participate in the UEFA Europa League. However, with Manchester United reaching the EFL Cup final, the EFL Cup title will now go to either Manchester City or Manchester United, both of whom will be in the top five of the Premier League if nothing else, and therefore the second UEFA Cup spot will be handed over to the 6th place finisher in the Premier League. Given that Manchester United are also the EFL Cup winners, the UEFA Europa League seat will accordingly be transferred to the 7th place team in the Premier League, meaning that Liverpool will only need to hold on to their top seven position to secure a place in Europe.
Liverpool are currently on 50 points, just 1 point more than 8th-placed Brighton, but have played 2 more games. They are in fierce competition with Aston Villa with 51 points and Tottenham Hotspur with 53 points, and the battle for qualification to European competitions will be extremely tense.
