In the Premier League, Tottenham Hotspur suffered a heartbreaking 1-6 defeat against Newcastle on Sunday (23rd). The disastrous loss put the team at a disadvantage in the title race. In the early hours of Tuesday morning (25), Tottenham Hotspur FC responded swiftly by announcing their second managerial change in a month, with the instant sacking of caretaker leader Stelliani and the temporary acting of Ryan Mason as coach. The 31-year-old young coach will make his debut in the early hours of this Friday morning (28th), hosting Manchester United.
Tottenham Hotspur chairman Levy said in a statement: "For the performance of the Newcastle battle, we feel unacceptable, the scene is heartbreaking. There are a number of reasons for this, including me personally, the management, the coaching team and the players, all need to take responsibility. Stelliani and his team will be leaving and Ryan Mason will take over on an interim basis. I have met with the players' representatives and we are determined to stay united in our quest to achieve the best possible result before the end of the season."
Tottenham just sacked Italian sensation Mauricio Pochettino at the end of last month and appointed his assistant Stelliani as caretaker leader with Ryan Mason as his deputy. However, Stelliani was swept aside after less than a month at the helm of the flag after winning just one, drawing two and losing two of his four games in charge. Ryan Mason was Tottenham's caretaker leader in 2021, when he led the side in seven games, winning four and losing three. Spurs are currently fifth in the league, six points behind fourth-placed Manchester United and have played two fewer games, so victory against United on Friday will be crucial.
