Spain's former "invincible fleet" met Morocco in the last 16 of the Qatar World Cup and lost 0-2 on penalties. However, in the second round of the qualifying round of the UEFA Europa League, the European powerhouse again met its Waterloo, facing the English Premier League Manchester United's replacement midfielder McTominay (Scott McTominay), Spain to 0-2 was beaten by the cold, which is the first time in 39 years Spain lost to Scotland.

In this UEFA qualifying campaign, Spain were drawn in Group A with Scotland, Georgia, Norway and Cyprus. Despite being unbeaten in qualifying for 19 matches, Spain conceded their first goal in the seventh minute against Scotland, who have no significant international record. United midfielder Mike Tomina scored once in the first half and once in the second to make it two in a row, showing an amazing attacking ability.

Spain had 75% possession throughout the match but were never able to break down Scotland and eventually lost 0-2. It was Spain's first loss to Scotland since 1984 and Scotland's best international performance since beating France in 2007.

At the end of last year's World Cup, Spain started a fierce battle with Morocco in the round of 16, and all three failed to hit in the penalty shootout, and were eventually eliminated in a 0-3 drubbing. And this year, they suffered another blowout in the second round of the UEFA qualifying round.

Although Spain still maintained a high rate of possession in this campaign, but lack of effective means of attack, only eight shots on goal in the whole game, less than Scotland once.
