There's no denying that United have a top-notch starting lineup. De Gea, Varane, Lima, Luke Shaw, Casemiro, Eriksen, B Faye, Rashford and Martial could all occupy starting positions if their health is not at risk. However, the players on the bench are outclassed by objective factors such as injuries and red card suspensions.
Martial's prolonged absence due to injury has angered fans. But from an objective point of view, he is undoubtedly a better option than Verhulst. There is a gap between Malacia and Luke Shaw at left-back. Lindelof and Maguire would put United at serious risk of relegation if they started in place of Varane and Lima.
