(PSG) On the eve of their Champions League last-16 showdown away to Bayern Munich, shocking news has come in - Brazilian star Neymar will undergo surgery to repair ankle ligaments and is expected to be out for three to four months, ending his season.
Neymar suffered an unfortunate injury against Lille last month, tearing up the pitch and being rushed out in an ambulance, and has not played in two consecutive league matches since.PSG released a statement on Tuesday saying that the health of Neymar's right ankle has been unstable in recent years, and that after he was re-injured last month his doctors recommended ligament repair surgery in order to avoid the serious risk of a recurrence of the old injury. All specialists agreed on the necessity of the surgery and Neymar is expected to resume training in three to four months.
It is reported that the surgery will take place in Doha, Qatar and the season's campaign will come to an early end as a result. Neymar made 20 Ligue 1 appearances this season before his injury, scoring 13 goals. The 31-year-old, who has a contract with PSG until 2025, will have Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe carrying the attack in his absence.
